I think that, generally, a parking garage that is right in the midst of the downtown Dover shopping district is preferable to one that is blocks away. These days, folks don’t like to walk far. Delaware Technical Community College’s Charles L. Terry Jr. Campus in Dover celebrated its 56th commencement in front of an overflow crowd underneath a tent on campus May 13.
Delaware State University’s Class of 2024 suited up in their caps and gowns to take to the stage May 10 for its undergraduate commencement in Dover. Though there was wind and drizzle, spirits were bright, especially when university president Dr. Tony Allen announced that this year’s class is not only the biggest in history but also holds the highest collective GPA.
Regarding the article, “Previous Dover City Council president could be censured for ethics complaint,” by Benjamin Rothstein: It looks to me like there is more than meets the eye with this situation.
I am writing in response to Jordan McClements’ recent Opinion in the Greater Dover Independent (“1.8% decrease in overdose deaths is not political victory").
Perhaps if more citizens ran for office who have leadership skills or, more importantly, if more citizens bothered to show up and vote, Dover might improve. Our last mayoral election had less than 2,000 citizens even bother to show up and actually cast a vote.
This is in response to an article by Benjamin Rothstein published in the Daily State News, titled “Electricity shutoff policy on Dover council’s radar.”
After I started using heroin in 2016, my overdose in 2017 and my cousin’s death to an overdose in 2019, Delaware seems to be waiting to see what other states are doing to combat this crisis.
Sadly, I see the interest in NASCAR has been fading more and more lately. As for Dover, I was at the first race at Dover Downs and witnessed the rise and fall of racing there.
Dover City Council’s meeting April 22 concluded with a passionate message from Mayor Robin R. Christiansen regarding recent violent events. “Let them get the message that we are coming after you,” he said. “We are not going to tolerate an unsafe city.”
