Founded in 1732 and incorporated in 1834, Salisbury is the county seat of Wicomico County and the largest city in Maryland's Eastern Shore region. Located at the head of the Wicomico River, its attractions include the Salisbury Zoo, recognized as one of the best small zoos in America; and Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, home of the Delmarva Shorebirds, a Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Salisbury University, founded in 1925, has a 173-acre campus and an enrollment of more than 8,000. TidalHealth Peninsula Regional hospital is one of the city's largest employers.
