Police: Student arrested after found with knives at Indian River High

DAGSBORO — An 18-year-old Indian River High student was arrested Wednesday after two knives were located in his backpack, Delaware State Police said.

Authorities said that at approximately 9 a.m., the School Resource Officer was notified by school staff that they discovered a vape pen with suspected THC and two folding knives following their search of the student’s backpack, police said.

The student was removed from the school and turned over to the custody of a parent, no threats were made, and no students or staff were harmed., police said.

The student later turned himself in at Troop 4, according to authorities.

Charges against the student included possession of a weapoin in a safe school zone, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of marijuana. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released after posting a $2,001 secured bond. The student was also issued a no-contact order with the Indian River School District.
