Event to benefit Millsboro Little League

MILLSBORO — With an extra $5 donation at the door, which goes to Millsboro Little League, tickets are available at the door for the Millsboro Chamber of Commerce’s first Casino Night on Thursday at the Millsboro Fire Company.

Starting at 5 p.m., with the awards starting around 8 before the night ends at 9, a $40 advance donation grants access to slot machines, blackjack, roulette and a full-sized craps table as well as cash bar and heavy snacks.

“Plus, it’s a chance to get out and support the community,” said Anne Angel, executive director of the chamber, said.

Tickets are available at Eventbrite.com/e/casino-night-tickets-795501234607.

It’s the first event of what Ms. Angel hopes will become an annual offering, and has the potential to help any number of community organizations as long as it grows, she said.

“This year we had to start somewhere. So we started with the Little League” figuring it was a cause most people in the area could get behind. “We’re focused on getting off the ground, so we hope to have a mushroom effect.”

If luck is a lady that evening, winners get tickets that can be used as chances toward one of about a dozen gift baskets or prizes,. More tickets mean more chances toward one or more baskets, which are provided by chamber members or are donations.

For the more passive gambler, there’s going to be a 50/50, and for those with no patience for games of chance and want to get it all out in the open, a silent auction. These activities are run separately from the ticketing system from the table games, Ms. Angel explained.

“In just this past year, we have added 74 new members,” Ms. Angel said of the growth the Millsboro chamber is experiencing. The challenge of that is meeting the expectations of new members who are bringing new resources and new demands to the area.

“They want and deserve more services, and are willing to donate and become sponsors of our events to help the community. We all thought the Little League would be a good place to start, and is something everyone can support,” Ms. Angel said.
