Travers: Dover Century Club thanks city residents

Posted

The Dover Century Club would like to thank all those who supported the National Day of Service and our efforts to fill the pantry of The Salvation Army on Sept. 28. The General Federation of Women’s Clubs and its Delaware chapter launched a nationwide initiative to address food insecurity in our country and in local areas. The city of Dover’s residents acted. Our club collected 2,996 pounds of food for The Salvation Army’s pantry.

I would like to first thank Mayor Robin Christiansen and City Councilwoman Dr. Julia Pillsbury for their time and energy toward this worthy effort and for proclaiming Sept. 28 as the “Step Up to End Hunger Day of Service” in the city. Many thanks also go to top contributors to the food drive: the Dover Lions Club, Byler’s in Dover, Polytech High School, The Upper Cut Salon and Spa, and Restaurant 55. To all the other sponsors — too many to list — thank you for your contributions.

To all the volunteers who worked tirelessly for hours, weighing and packing food, your efforts were so appreciated, and the job could not have been done without you. The Dover Century Club and The Salvation Army are incredibly grateful.

President, The Dover Century Club
