I just received a letter from the Delaware Department of Insurance in response to Case No. 195744, and I am not surprised by its disappointing action.
The case was about a 50% increase in my car insurance premium, when I haven’t had any claims, accidents or traffic violations for many, many years.
If the state requires that you have coverage, shouldn’t it have some restrictions on how much of a rate increase companies can charge?
The Insurance Department claims that the increase is “justified” by its standards.
There is some comfort to the fact that the insurance companies don’t have to go very far to find Mr. Trinidad Navarro or the Delaware Department of Insurance. They have got them in their pocket!
Just for the record: What would be considered an “unjustified” rate increase in Delaware? One hundred percent? Five hundred percent? One thousand percent?
