DOVER — A 38-year-old Dover man was charged with unlawful imprisonment and other offenses connected to an Uber ride Tuesday night, authorities said.
Dover Police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said investigation began at 9:32 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 7-11 at 654 N. DuPont Highway for a weapon complaint. Officers contacted a man who said that he worked for Uber and was involved in an altercation with a passenger.
Police said investigation determined that the man picked Brent Weeks up from an establishment in Dover and was hired to drive him home.
Police said the men got into an argument and Mr. Weeks threatened the driver with a knife. According to Cpl. Schmid, Mr. Weeks was also holding on to the driver, not allowing him to stop or exit the vehicle.
Authorities said the driver eventually was able to stop, exit the vehicle and call 911 at 7-11.

Mr. Weeks was charged with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and aggravated menacing. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $6,500 secured bail.
