Dover man arrested in library, charged with burglary

DOVER — A 25-year-old man was arrested for burglary following an alarm call at the Dover Public Library on Friday, authorities said.

Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said the investigation began around 6:22 p.m., when officers were called to the library at 35 Loockerman Plaza regarding a burglary alarm. Dispatchers remotely viewed cameras at the facility, which showed the suspect inside, hiding behind a desk, authorities said.

Officers entered the library, which had been closed since 5, and Alexander Melero-Almodovar of Dover was taken into custody without further incident.

Police also determined that, while inside, the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of money from a desk.

Mr. Melero-Almodovar was charged with third-degree burglary and theft under $1,500.
