DELMAR — A 51-year-old Delmar, Maryland woman died in a three-vehicle crash early Monday, Delaware State Police.

Authorities said that at approximately 6:15 a.m., a maroon 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling southbound on Sussex Highway just south of West Snake Road. At the same time, a black 2012 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Sussex Highway approaching East Snake Road, with a silver 2006 Chevrolet Impala traveling behind it.

For unknown reasons, police said, the Monte Carlo began to slide to its left and went into the grass median.

Police said the Monte Carlo crossed the median and went into the northbound lanes of Sussex Highway, where the front of the oncoming Camry struck the right side of the Monte Carlo. This caused both cars to start rotating and led to the front of the Monte Carlo colliding with the front of the northbound Impala, police said.

The driver of the Camry was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified.

The Monte Carlo driver, a 19-year-old Seaford man, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital in critical condition.

The passenger of the Camry, a 55-year-old Delmar, Maryland man, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Impala, a 64-year-old Salisbury, Maryland, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Sussex Highway was closed for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Senior Cpl. R.
