Teen dies in Millsboro crash

MILLSBORO — A 16-year-old Millsboro male died in a motor vehicle crash Tuesday, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:55 p.m., as a 2005 Infiniti G35 sedan was traveling south on DuPont Boulevard, north of Delaware Avenue. For an unknown reason, a 16-year-old male driver from Millsboro lost control of the vehicle and exited the roadway while spinning clockwise, police said.

The car continued traveling south before striking several fence posts at the Atlantis Homes location. While still traveling sideways, the left side of the Infiniti hit a curb and began to overturn before going airborne. It then struck the steel Atlantis Homes sign on the left rear side and came to rest, police said.

A front-seat passenger — a 16-year-old male of Millsboro — was not properly restrained and pronounced deceased at the scene, Cpl. Pepper said. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

A 17-year-old male passenger from Milford was riding in the rear seat. He was not properly restrained and transported to an area hospital, where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries, police added.

The driver, who was properly restrained, was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries and released.

The road was closed for approximately 3.5 hours, while the investigation was completed and the area cleared.

The collision remains under investigation by the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Master Cpl. Kenny Argo at 703-3264. Information may also be provided by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or here.
