SELBYVILLE — A 21-year-old Milford woman died from injuries sustained in a shooting Saturday.

According to the Delaware State Police, at approximately 11:56 p.m., troopers responded to a reported shooting in the parking lot of a strip mall at 36334 Dupont Blvd. Upon arrival, they observed several vehicles fleeing the scene and numerous shell casings on the ground.

Shortly afterward, troopers received reports of a 21-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound at a nearby hospital, where she was ultimately pronounced dead, police said.

The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of kin.

A second victim, a 30-year-old Seaford woman, was also taken by private vehicle to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released for a gunshot wound to her upper body, troopers said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Halloween party took place at a business in the shopping center. A fight broke out, and the partygoers were asked to disperse.

The fight continued in the parking lot, and an unknown suspect began shooting, police said. The two victims were not involved in the altercation.

The 21-year-old was attempting to get to her car when she was struck in the upper torso. The 30-year-old was seated in her vehicle when it was struck by gunfire.

Following the shooting, the crowd dispersed, and the suspect fled in an unknown direction, authorities said.

The Homicide Unit is investigating and asks anyone with information to call Detective A. Bluto at 302-741-2859, to send a message via the state police Facebook page or to contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
