Accidental fire in Georgetown causes around $50K damage

Posted

GEORGETOWN — An accidental structure fire caused around $50,000 in damage Wednesday, the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal said.

According to spokesman John Galaska, the incident, reported shortly after 2:30 p.m, occurred in the 18000 block of McColley’s Chapel Road. The Georgetown Fire Company arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure. The standalone garage structure was not occupied at the time of the fire.

Mutual aid fire companies assisted at the scene.

Investigation determined that the blaze was caused by fire spreading from an adjacent controlled burn, Mr. Galaska said. There were no reported injuries to persons or firefighters.
