Wings & Wheels launches revised website for Georgetown event

GEORGETOWN — Wings & Wheels, the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce’s annual fall festival that draws thousands to the Delaware Coastal Airport, has a revised website.

The chamber announced the new address as wings-wheels.com this week.

The 2024 event is Oct. 4-5, with the Friday Dinner Show followed by the free, family-friendly main event the next day.

Designed by Historical Vintage Car Club of Delaware president Mike Rogers, the updated webpage offers easy navigation for vendors, car show registrants, those wishing to purchase tickets for the Friday performance and all attendees.

“The drop-down (menus) help a lot. It is professional-looking and very easy to navigate, very clean,” said chamber president/CEO Linda Price. “In our old website, it was very difficult to maneuver. ... I could put applications out there, but you had to download it and send it in. Mike has designed it so that there are drop-down windows for everything.”

Plus, vendors can complete their applications right on the secure site.

With registration for the car show opening at midnight Aug. 15, one click will direct participants to the car club’s site to sign up.

Tickets for the dinner production can easily be purchased on the page, as well.

Further, in conjunction with Southern Delaware Tourism, the Wings & Wheels site offers a survey. In the past, the chamber approached questionnaire participants as they were leaving the festival.

“Sometimes, people don’t want to fill it out there. It’s a little bit cumbersome,” Ms. Price said. “Now, we put the survey on the website, … and that survey comes to us.”

Another new feature is an airport map, designed by Ad Art. “It is very interchangeable with going from a laptop or desktop to your phone. So, they will be able to pull the map up (easily),” she added.

During the Saturday portion of the festivities, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wings & Wheels will showcase new and classic cars, and World War II living history, as well as various warbirds, including bombers, jets, single-engine fighters and biplanes, on the tarmac and in the sky.

In addition, Ms. Price said a request has been submitted for a C-130 and a Black Hawk helicopter, and there is a possibility of an F-16 fighter jet making an appearance. She is also working with Dover Air Force Base on a possible flyover of a C-5.

Weather permitting, the U.S. Naval Parachute Team will perform several precision jumps over the show. And the flour-bombing competition, a festival staple, will also return.

Saturday’s entertainment is the band The FlipSide, offering Southern classic rock, starting at noon.

And, based on available space, organizers estimate the car show could accommodate around 325 entries.

Ms. Price said the chamber is hopeful the revised website will be beneficial.

“Everything is all in one place,” she noted. “It’s going to make it much easier for our people that are coming out to get everything that they need all in one place.”
