Thrive Dover brings the buzz for 55-plus

DOVER — Active seniors can find activities and information to enhance their lives at “Thrive Dover-Senior Life After 55” on July 19.

The annual exposition returns to the clubhouse at Noble’s Pond, 13 Nobles Pond Crossing, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission is free and open to all. Presented by the Daily State News in partnership with the 55-plus community of Noble’s Pond, event sponsors are Bayhealth and Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

“Thrive” events are all about the older-adult lifestyle. Visitors can explore the expo’s footprint throughout The Point clubhouse, while picking up expert knowledge on art and activities, medicine and Medicare, finance and fraud protection, plus much more. Noble’s Pond will also offer model home tours.

“The room is buzzing with energy as guests make the rounds and learn more about tons of topics, sign up for door prizes, watch demonstrations and spend time exploring,” said Jessica Cook, special events manager for the State News.

“As life expectancy grows, so does the interest in exploring ‘second acts’ and new adventures. This event includes practical needs of seniors, as well as exciting new opportunities that cater to a growing, economically powerful demographic.”

Food trucks like Carl’s Gourmet Hots and Sandwiches and Kona Ice frozen sweets, will be on-site from 11 to 2. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day, and attendees don’t have to be present to win.

Dance demos will kick-start the energy at Thrive Dover, starting with the Steppin’ Seniors from the Modern Maturity Center (often sporting their matching sequins). Plus, the crowd can see Ida Poindexter Kirkendoll’s afternoon line dances, featuring the First State Steppers.

Coming from downtown Dover, Stonerail Market will host a morning cooking demo, designed to inspire folks in their home kitchens. The Potpourri Garden Club will also demonstrate flower arranging all day at its event table.

Attendees can enjoy complimentary breakfast goodies early in the day, thanks to New York Life Insurance.

“It’s like one-stop shopping for attendees,” said Beth Haynes, director of marketing for Regal Builders, the developer of Noble’s Pond. “It brings several providers and businesses that focus on health, wellness and living well under one roof.

“I’ve been privileged to attend several Thrive events, and I always hear the same comments — the event is so helpful and fun, and highlights places and services that many weren’t aware of but are interested in.”

Parking will be free at the clubhouse. More details are at delmarvaevents.net.
