CAMBRIDGE – Dorchester Center for the Arts announces new workshops for February, March, April and May. Start with Watercolor Saturdays with Marianne Kost.

In these one-day workshops, instruction will focus on journaling with pen and watercolor wash. Students will work from their travel or memorabilia photos. Also included will be urban sketching with instruction on perspective for architectural components. Take one class or several with ongoing critique of previous month’s studies.

Saturdays 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 10, March 16, April 13 and May 11. $25 each for DCA members, $70 non-members. Registration and materials list online at dorchesterarts.org.
On Feb. 24, 1-4 p.m., Diana Evans will host a one-day workshop titled “Think Spring in Watercolor.” This workshop will provide fun for beginners and challenges for the more experienced painter. Spring flowers will be the focus.

Students are welcome to bring their own photos or paint from the examples provided. Diane will demonstrate and provide individual attention for each student. Materials will be provided if needed or bring your own.

$80 DCA members, $125 non-members. Materials cost (if needed) – $10, payable to instructor at first class.
Looking ahead, save the date April 20, 1-4 p.m. for a family workshop, “Celebrate Earth Day with an Up-Cycle Craft Project,” instructed by Griselda Jiménez. Turn trash into treasure at this up-cycling craft day led by World Wide Hope founder Ms. Jiménez. Families will learn about caring for the environment while creating art out of recycled materials.

The class will be taught in both English and Spanish. A parent or guardian must accompany the children. Free, all are welcome.
