Speak Up: New Dover signage designed to slow motorists

Posted

With Dover's newly acquired speed signs, the hope is that motorists will do the right thing and slow down. Four solar-powered signs — which flash a vehicle’s speed as it passes — are expected to be operational within the next month, city officials said.

  • There is one in my front yard on Del. 8, and nobody slows down, and if a car is turning down the shoulder, they go. — Eric Snyder
  • We don’t need speed limit signs anymore in the area I live. It’s so congested, we can’t even do the speed limit. — Shirley Mitchell
  • Unless it’s physically slowing the cars down, I don’t think the city understands people because this isn’t slowing anything down. This just tells you how fast you’re going. And $35,000 to do what? It’s not giving people tickets or anything. It’s literally just a fancy sign. — Ryan Kristopher
  • A lot of people here don’t even stop at “stop” signs. Expecting them to do the speed limit is asking too much. — Henry Rice II
  • No need to tell me my speed. I have a device in my car that does that already. — Mark Kolsun
  • Good luck with that! They fly past my home on Del. 8 and completely ignore the flashing sign. Consequently, there are many accidents. — Faith Belcher Whipkey
  • There are lots of people raging against being told they are violating speed laws. Personally, I slow when reminded, especially in residential areas and school zones. The difference between a child being killed or “just” injured is a few miles per hour under 30. — Alan Centa
  • Waste of time and effort unless those signs are going to be issuing tickets. Sure, people slow down when they see the sign, but as soon as they pass them, they go right back to what they were doing. — Shelly Sis
