I am writing in response to an Opinion, “Councilman Anderson starting 'damage control'” by William G. Faust. The piece was disturbing to read, especially about a sitting City Council member who appears to have violated the code of ethics through inappropriate behavior at a City Council meeting, according to Mr. Faust.
Mr. Faust writes, “If Councilman Anderson is not held accountable for his actions, how do you think he will act as mayor if he should run and win?” I definitely won’t vote for him, and I live in the 4th District.
In our democracy, maintaining the integrity of our city’s decision-making process is essential to preserving public confidence. I would hope that this matter is reviewed by the appropriate ethics or oversight body to determine whether a violation has occurred by Councilman Anderson.
This situation raises concern that Councilman Anderson has committed “abuse of office,” and in this case, the Delaware attorney general should get involved and investigate. If she declines to address this matter, it should be forwarded to the U.S. attorney’s office to look into, in my opinion.
Councilman Anderson should be subjected to all legal rules, regardless of his status. No one should be exempt because they hold a political office.
