Skocik: Friends of Delaware Veterans dinner coming up

Posted

Dave Skocik of Dover is the president of the Delaware Veterans Coalition.

Veterans and supporters: Please join us for our 13th annual black tie-optional fundraising dinner from 6-9 Nov. 10 at Dover’s beautiful Modern Maturity Center.

The Friends of Delaware Veterans, a nonpartisan 501(c)3 entity, is run by veterans who volunteer their time and effort to assist our fellow veterans of all generations.

This special dinner will be the last opportunity to celebrate the 250th birthday of our great nation and the patriots who have made it possible since 1776.

We look forward to having you join us and being acknowledged or for your post to make a tax-deductible contribution in support of those who serve.

It will begin with a local high school Junior ROTC color guard, our proud national anthem, an opening prayer by a three-time Purple Heart recipient, welcoming remarks by the host, a DJ and comradery with veterans and guests.

Dinner will include a wonderful meal and dessert, specially selected entertainment, a keynote speaker raised in a divided Berlin, with Russian socialism imposed on East Germany.

We’ve kept the price at $100 since 2014. Net proceeds will benefit the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund, administered by the Delaware Office of Veterans Services. Since 2012, the fund has provided one-time grants to honorably discharged veterans of all generations who reside in the First State.

It provides for emergency needs not covered by other programs. It has stopped evictions, repossessions of vehicles and the cutoff of utilities, plus supported emergency repairs to residences and provided help with rental down payments that require as many as three months of pay upfront.

Seating options include a single seat at an eight-person table or the sponsorship of an organizational eight-person table for $1,000, which would include a listing in the program as a tax-deductible donor, minus the cost of your meal(s).

To reserve a seat or table or to provide a tax-deductible contribution, please mail a check to Friends of Delaware Veterans, P.O. Box 657, Dover, DE 19901.

Physical tickets will not be distributed. Please include contact information with your check (i.e., name, phone and email), so we can confirm your reservation for our will-call list at the check-in desk and direct you to your seat.

For sponsored tables, please list the name of your post or organization, so we can direct your guests to your table. If possible, include their names for our records.

Please pass the word along. We encourage early reservations because seats fill quickly. The registration deadline is Nov. 2.
