I believe Mr. John Drennen (“Let’s look closely at public broadcasting defunding”) missed my point when I wrote about recent Republican moves to reverse funding (“Republicans at fault for eroding democracy”).
First, I have my doubts that foreign aid funds were used to broadcast “Sesame Street” in Iraq or for drag shows, but again, that was not my point.
These were funds already allocated. Reversing them was virtually unprecedented. To me, the main point was that several Republican members of Congress did not agree with the action but voted to approve to keep our egomaniac president happy. They essentially admitted that it was a case of him saying, “Jump,” and them replying, “How high?”
As for public broadcasting, I think he reinforced my concern. He believes that, if you don’t agree with what he’s saying, then you can’t say it.
