Maryland Senior Trooper suspended without pay after grand jury indictment

SALISBURY — A Maryland State Trooper has been suspended without pay after a recent indictment by a grand jury in Wicomico County.

Senior Trooper Jordan Monk is facing charges of intercepting communications and misconduct in office, which allegedly stemmed from a workplace incident in February at the state police barracks on N. Salisbury Blvd.

The indictment, obtained by the Salisbury Independent, claims Monk “did willfully intercept an oral communication” on Feb. 15. The charge is considered a felony, punishable by up to five years in jail and fines up to $10,000.

Additionally, the indictment alleges Monk “committed misconduct in office by knowingly, willfully and intentionally activating a body-worn camera device and placing (it) in the Criminal Enforcement Division office in the Maryland State Police Barrack,” which is considered a misdemeanor.

The Maryland Department of State Police Office of Media Communications said Monk has served since 2010 and was currently assigned to the Salisbury Barrack.

Monk’s initial court appearance is slated for June 21 at 9 a.m. at the Wicomico County Courthouse.
