Longtime Scout named grand marshal for Georgetown Christmas Parade

Posted

GEORGETOWN — The Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce has announced that Louise Rathfon has been selected as grand marshal for the Georgetown Christmas Parade on Thursday.

Involved in the Boy Scouts of America for 45 years, Ms. Rathfon has served in many positions in the Sussex District, such as activities chair, membership chair and co-chair of the annual recognition dinner for adult Scouts.

She was a den leader when both of her sons were Scouts and continued as her four grandsons became Cub Scouts.

Ms. Rathfon has been actively involved in Boy Scout Troop 95 since 1984, holding the position of committee chair. She has completed required leader training courses, like Individual Outdoor Leadership Skills, Woodbadge, Youth Protection, Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense, Climb on Safely and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

She also was a key part of the Sussex District’s training team for over 10 years and has served as a merit badge counselor.

Ms. Rathfon camps with the troop each month from September to May, as well as attends a long-term summer camp every August at Camp Horseshoe. This year was the troop’s 31st year at that facility.

She is also active in other civic organizations.

Georgetown’s parade will begin at 7 p.m., as part of a combined event that also will feature Caroling on The Circle at 6 and the tree lighting.

The festivities are a focal point in Sussex County’s annual food drive. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of canned goods and nonperishable food.
