Local roundup: Senators' snap Panthers' streak; Riders down Bucs

Dover High downed Polytech, 3-0, in a Henlopen North girls’ volleyball match on Thursday evening.

The Senators won by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-19, to improve to 1-1 in the North, 2-2 overall.

Leading Dover were Elizabeth Baughman (13 kills, 16 digs), Kenyatta Williams (9 kills), Malya Milstead (8 kills), Reese Culver (18 digs) and Jasmine Hallum (4 aces, 32 assists).

The Panthers (1-2 North, 4-2 overall) had a four-match winning streak snapped.

Caesar Rodney 3, Milford 0: The Riders posted the Henlopen North by scores of 25-16, 25-9, 25-10.

Melissa Eddy had a team-high seven kills, Zoe Thomas had five aces and nine assists while Lilly Cameli had a team-high nine digs.

Smyrna 3, Cape Henlopen 0: The Eagles stayed unbeaten with the 25-11, 25-14, 25-14 Henlopen North victory.

Tatum Friend and Kalista Lawson had five kills apiece for the Vikings with Megan Smith adding 14 assists and eight digs.

Sussex Central 3, Sussex Tech 0: The Golden Knights downed the Ravens, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22, in a Henlopen North matchup.

Takyla Davis had 12 kills for Central, Catherine Hassler had eight aces and Ava Albano added nine assists.

Delmarva Christian 3, Delmar 0: The Royals improved to 3-1 after registering the 25-12, 25-10, 25-22 victory.

Holly Grove Christian 3, Seaford 0: Holly Grove topped the Blue Jays by scores of 25-8, 25-10, 25-7.

Lake Forest 3, Laurel 0: The Spartans earned a straight-set win over the Bulldogs.

Milford 3, Early College 1: The Buccaneers picked up the Henlopen South win by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 25-11 on Tuesday.

Sussex Tech 3, Seaford 0: The Ravens earned the win by scores of 25-8, 25-6, 25-14 on Tuesday.

Field hockey

Delmar 12, Milford 0: Maci Bradford tallied the Wildcats’ first three goals before finishing with seven in the Henlopen South victory.

Jordyn Hollamon added two goals and three assists for Delmar, which took 33 shots and 15 corners. The Wildacts (6-0) haven’t allowed a goal since their season opener.

The Buccaneers’ Melissa Mesidor and Madison Stahl combined for 12 saves.

Woodbridge 7, Sussex Central 0: The Blue Raiders blanked the Golden Knights to imrove to 3-2.

Sussex Tech 2, Indian River 0: The Ravens scored a pair of second-half goals as they evened their record at 2-2.

Laurel 4, Delmarva Christian 0: The Bulldogs tallied three second-half goals to put away the win.

Woodbridge 4, Laurel 0: Four different players scored goals for the Blue Raiders in the Henlopen South win on Tuesday.

Caroline Scott, Mariah Maddox, Parker Keeler and Payton Keeler all scored for Woodbridge, which finished with advantages of 20-3 in shots and 15-3 in corners.

Taylor Rawlings made 16 saves for the Bulldogs.

Boys’ soccer

Smyrna 2, Seaford 1: The Eagles scored goals six minutes apart in the final 15 minutes of the game to pull out the win.

Dover 1, Smyrna 0: Jose Vera Ramirez’ overtime goal gave the Senators the North win on Tuesday night.

Rolando Betancourt-Mejia assisted on the goal, which came in the 99th minute, while Alex Escalante-Diaz made seven saves. Dover finished with edges of 11-7 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.

The Eagles’ Alex Valle Roman made 11 saves.

Woodbridge 3, Laurel 2: The Blue Raiders built a 3-1 lead before downing the Bulldogs in the South matchup.

Mike Gonzalez-Perez scored both Laurel goals.

Delmarva Christian 5, Salisbury School 4: The Royals out-scored Salisbury, 4-1, in the second half to rally for the victory on Wednesday.

Delmar 12, Holly Grove Christian 0: Darwin Lopez-Ponce netted four goals to pace the wildcats to the victory.

College cross country

DSU’s Smith honored: Delaware State sophomore distance runner Devin Smith has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Smith claimed the top individual spot at the DSU Sting Invite over the weekend with a time of 16:26.2 which was 14 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. His performance helped lead the Hornets to a team victory to open the 2022 season.
