Local roundup: Polytech boys stay unbeaten in North; Caesar Rodney, Dover also get wins

Polytech High put up a season-high points in downing Sussex Central, 88-63, in Henlopen North boys’ basketball on Tuesday night.

Senior Kyla Gamber finished with a game-high 29 points after making six of Polytech’s 16 three-pointers. Dorell Little (21) and Xavier Brewington (18 points, 5 three-pointers) also led the Panthers.

First-place Polytech is now 11-0 in the North.

The Golden Knights got 18 points apiece from David Maker and Clarence McBride-Allen. Maker hit five three-pointers.

Caesar Rodney 60, Smyrna 52: In a back-and-forth North contest, the Riders shook off an early seven-point deficit to post the North win.

Adam Bailey (13), Khalil Kemp (12) and Alexander Doughty (10) led CR, which got eight or more points from six players.

Freshman Logan Steele netted 11 points with three three-pointers for the Eagles.

Dover 72, Sussex Tech 41: The Senators started the game on a 25-10 run before earning the Henlopen North victory.

Jaheim Harrell (18) and Denim Parler (12) combined to hit seven three-pointers for Dover, which also got 10 points from Kendall Abrams.

The Ravens got 13 points from Kesai Frazier.

Laurel 77, Indian River 31: The Bulldogs out-scored the Indians, 28-8, in the third quarter of their South win.

Cape Henlopen 53, Milford 47: The Vikings raised their record to 8-5 in the North, 10-5 overall.

Delmar 64, Sussex Academy 19: The Wildcats improved to 5-0 overall with the South win.

Delmarva Christian 60, Worcester Prep 38: The Royals raised their record to 10-4 with the victory.

Girls’ basketball

Smyrna 40, Caesar Rodney 39: The Eagles led by four going into the fourth quarter before holding on for the North victory.

Jayde Rivera had 15 points for Smyrna after sinking three three-pointers for the fifth game in a row. Kai Burnette added 12 points.

Polytech 58, Sussex Central 16: Cierra Henry (17), Sky Navanjo (16) and Kallie Hopkins (11) all scored in double figures for the Panthers.

Polytech out-scored the Golden Knights, 22-4, in the third quarter.

Dover 45, Sussex Tech 34: The Senators took a 35-22 into the fourth quarter before earning the North victory.

Cape Henlopen 53, Milford 22: The Vikings led 28-11 by halftime before improving to 10-0 in the North.

Faith Re (11 points), Amalia Frutchman (9 points, 9 rebounds, 6 blocks) and Hayden Hudson (8 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks) paced Cape Henlopen.

Early College 48, Lake Forest 38: The Hornets improved to 11-2 with the South victory.

Laurel 42, Indian River 39: The Bulldogs trailed 36-21 before rallying in the fourth quarter for the South win.

Sussex Academy 44, Delmar 36: The Seahawks picked up their second Henlopen South win of the season.
