Dover edged Camden-Wyoming, 8-7, in the opening game of the Senior League baseball District I tournament on Tuesday evening.

Pitcher Jeremy Drago struck out 10 and gave up just two hits in five innings for Dover.

Dover next faces Felton-Harrington on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament being played at MOT.

Greyson Smith was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Dover while Drago (2 RBI, 2 runs), Aidan Durham and William Burgos all had two hits each. William Burgos added two RBI.

Pitcher Graham Buckson (2 runs) had an RBI double for Camden-Wyoming while Rhett Lancaster also scored twice and Owen Justiniano added a pair of hits.

MOT 9, Milford 8: The Middletown squad forced a second game for the tourney title with the one-run win on Monday,

MOT scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie before holding off Milford. Pitcher Tyler Derasmo tagged out the potential tying run at home plate.

MOT-Red 5, MOT-Blue 4: MOT-Red scored twice in the fifth to overcome a one-run deficit and reach the tourney finals.

MOT-Red (2-0) will play in the title game on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Camden-Wyoming.

Pitcher Andrew Gambino earned the victory giving up only one run, three hits, no walks with six strikeouts in three innings. Sam Lewis, who also pitched two innings, added an RBI double while Miles Clark went 2-for-2.

Jordyn Brown struck out three for MOT-Blue while Kevin Koehner went 2-for-2.

Camden-Wyoming Gold 11, Smyrna-Clayton Red 0: Camden-Wyoming Gold reached the tourney championship game, which will be played on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Harrington.

C-W Gold had 13 hits by 10 different players as Raiden Sheets, Kaden Ressler and Kellan Slater all had two apiece.

MOT 28, Felton-Harrington 0: Ava Perrucci struck out seven and didn’t walk any in three innings as host Middletown won the opener in the District I tournament.

Gracie Riccio went 4-for-5 for MOT with Kaysa Johnson going 3-for-4.

Pitcher Breanna Hall had one strikeout and only three walks in three innings for Felton-Harrington.

Chappa fires low round at Del. Amateur: Jacoby Chappa, a 30-year-old U.S. Air Force member stationed in Dover, played himself into contention at the 71st Delaware Amateur on Tuesday.

Chappa fired a three-under-par 69 — the low round of the tournament so far — to sit in second place going into Wednesday’s final two rounds of the tourney, being played at Bayside Resort Golf Club in Selbyville.

Briarwood’s Michael Crowley holds the lead with a two-round total of 145. Chappa is second at 146 while Matt Dolinsky and first-round leader Reeve Felner are tied for third at 147.

A native of west Texas who now plays out of Maple Dale, Chappa plays for the Air Force team. His 69 on Tuesday was eight shots better than the 77 he carded on Monday.

In Tuesday’s round, Chappa had six birdies against three bogeys. His 69 was one of only three sub-par rounds in the tourney.

A total of 38 players made the cut at 164 or lower for Wednesday’s last 36 holes.

College basketball

Hens announce transfer: The Delaware men’s basketball team officially announced the addition of graduate transfer Nigel Shadd on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-9, 250-pound Arizona native spent time at both Kansas State and Pacofic.

“Nigel is a strong, mobile forward that will bang on the boards and provide us with much needed size on our frontline,” said Blue Henc oach Martin Ingelsby. “He has the skills we like out of our bigs and he’ll bring a veteran presence to our team and locker room. We’re extremely excited to welcome Nigel to the Delaware basketball family.”

During his one season at Pacific, Shadd appeared in 11 games with four starts. He averaged 2.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and a 48.0 field-goal percentage in 12.5 minutes per game.

He played in 24 games in his three seasons at Kansas State. He scored 1,165 career points in high school.
