Janes Island State Park invites you to go fly a kite, 'Spooktacular' activities

CRISFIELD — Janes Island State Park in partnership with the Crisfield Arts & Entertainment District is sponsoring a kite making and flying workshop Saturday, Oct. 19 from 4 p.m. to sunset at the park’s picnic shelter.

If you have a kite, bring it, or take part in the free workshop with kites and decorating supplies provided. For more information email artsincrisfield@gmail.com.

Return to the park the following week and celebrate the Halloween season with a weekend of activities Friday through Sunday, Oct. 25-27.

On Friday, Oct. 25 check out the decorated campsites and vote on them through 8 p.m. Saturday by leaving your ballot in the ballot box by the Nature Center entrance.

On Saturday at 10 a.m. decorate a pumpkin (small fee to participate) to take home create your own “Spooktacular Tie Die” at noon.

At 3 p.m. take part in a hayride through the park, and at 5 a parade of costumed hobgoblins begins with judging at the end. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

On Sunday at 10 a.m. come to the Nature Center to learn about spiders.

The park is located at 26280 Alfred J. Lawson Drive. In addition to these there are programs every Saturday in October at the Nature Center from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a walking club every Wednesday at 5 p.m., and birding walks at 9 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month led by Maryland Ornithological Society volunteers .
