How would you have been affected by the dockworker strike?

Dockworkers, including those at the Port of Wilmington, went on strike briefly this week over wages and automation. Experts say a prolonged walkout could have reignited inflation and caused shortages of goods. What concerns did you have about the strike? Were you worried about disruptions to supply chains?

• People need to be educated about what is made on this continent and what is not before they go raiding all the toilet paper. And, perhaps, this is another teaching moment about why it’s important to manufacture in America and buy products made in America. — Bob Hice
• The thing that bothered me the most about the strike was the silence of the media to get the word out on what products would be affected. Toilet paper, for example: Eighty-five percent is made in the USA. The strikers were asking for a pretty hefty increase in wages. It seemed a little extreme. One of their concerns is the fear of automation. Every occupation has a fear of automation. Self-checkouts are an example. But a strike could lead to a reason to start automation. Robots can’t strike. The end of this strike just kicked the can down the road. In a few months, it could happen again. I hope we all learn from this one. — Stan Sipple
