QUANTICO — Join the Eastern Shore Running Club on Saturday, Oct. 12, for the inaugural Pirate’s Wharf 5K, which is the first race to be held at the new Pirate’s Wharf Park in Quantico.

The 5K race will begin at 9 a.m. and will be held on the crushed stone paths in the park. After the race, participants can enjoy music from Revive Sound Productions, free bowls from Playa Bowls, other refreshments, and yard games.

There will also be overall and age group awards presented, with a free pair of running shoes (valued at up to $150) from Vernon Powell Shoes for the top male and female finishers.

Race proceeds will benefit the Eastern Shore Running Club general fund and the Eastern Shore Running Club Scholarship Fund. ESRC's scholarship has been presented to two local high school graduating seniors each year starting in 2019.

Race registration is $35, plus a processing fee of $3.10. Online registration is available at www.esrclub.org/pirates-wharf-5k through Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 11:59 p.m. On-site registration will also be available from 7:30-8:30 a.m., along with packet pickup for registered runners. The deadline to receive a guaranteed race shirt has passed.

“Come out and join us at this beautiful new park for the Pirate’s Wharf 5K,” said Vanessa Junkin, president of the Eastern Shore Running Club. “It’s a flat and fast course, and after crossing the finish line, you can enjoy a fun post-race party.”

Mile Marker sponsors for the race include Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc.; Independent Tattoo; Playa Bowls; Vernon Powell Shoes; Veronica James - REALTOR, ERA Martin Associates; and Maryland’s Wicomico County.

Dogs and strollers are not permitted on the race course. Pirate’s Wharf Park is located at 4701 Whitehaven Road in Quantico, Maryland.

The Eastern Shore Running Club is a Salisbury, Maryland-based nonprofit through the Road Runners Club of America group exemption founded to promote and advocate for the running community on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
