Thrive Milford event to celebrate the older adult lifestyle

Free expo brings vendors and free demos on Oct. 11

Active seniors looking for fun activities and information to enhance their lifestyle are invited to Thrive Milford – Senior Life After 55. The exposition comes to the Milford Senior Center on Friday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is free and open to all. This event is presented by the Daily State News in partnership with Milford Senior Center. The 2024 event sponsor is Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Explore the expo floor, pick up some expert knowledge on arts, activities, health, home, finance and more. Door prizes will be awarded all day, and you don’t need to be present to win.

Tai Chi and cardio drumming are two of the demonstrations guests can look forward to. Plus, Carl's Gourmet Hot and Sandwich will set up a food truck on site.

“The thing that’s great about our Thrive events is that it’s a nice one-on-one chance for seniors to bend the ear of vendors and get into the details about what they do and how they can help,” said Jessica Cook, DSN events manager.

Once, for example, she enjoyed learning about a vendor’s home energy efficiency programs. “They do all this really great stuff. I hope every single person at stopped at that table and made that call,” Cook said. “Sure, you could research something online, but there’s so much to be said for a face-to-face connection. It’s worth the price of admission, which P.S. is free!”

This is Thrive’s second year at the Milford Senior Center, a daily activity center for independent seniors to gather, enjoy activities, aerobics, meals and often day or weekend trips together.

“This venue is such a great resource for seniors,” said Cook. There are a lot of programs, hobbies and services available, through both the senior center and the Oct. 11 expo—which makes this event a great partnership.

“Anytime we can help share those resources with seniors—that’s what this entire event is about,” Cook said. “Milford is such a booming area. It’s nice for us to be able to help represent those resources because there’s a big influx of retirees who want to be close to the beach. It’s just growing by leaps and bounds.”

The Milford Senior Center is located downtown at 111 Park Avenue. Parking is free.

Visit www.DelmarvaEvents.net for a full schedule, vendor list and more details. The “Thrive Milford” program book will also be in the Sunday, Oct. 6, edition of the Daily State News and online at BaytoBayNews.com/SpecialSections.
