GEORGETOWN — A unique art exhibition featuring 167 members of the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame is open in the Carter Partnership Center at Delaware Technical Community College’s Owens Campus.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame, the Office of Women’s Advancement and Advocacy commissioned Delaware artist Theresa Walton to create portraits of every woman inducted. The exhibition celebrates the achievement of women from across the state in various professional fields.

Portraits of Hall of Fame inductees include former Gov. Ruth Ann Minner, U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt-Rochester, former Delaware Tech Vice President Ileana Smith, educators First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Dr. Reba Hollingsworth, and community leader Maria Matos.

“The Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame has been showcasing our state’s history for 40 years,” said Gov. John Carney. “This exhibit brings to life the women who have made important contributions to Delaware. I want to thank the Office of Women’s Advancement and Advocacy, Delaware Technical Community College, and artist Theresa Walton for making this possible.”

“Across the nation and in Delaware, women are underrepresented in public spaces. The Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame and this exhibition strives to strengthen the view of women’s contributions by creating spaces where the public can view images of women who contributed to the rich history of Delaware,” said Melanie Ross Levin, Delaware’s director of the Office of Women’s Advancement & Advocacy.

“Delaware Tech is proud to host the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame art exhibition showcasing some of the inspiring women who have literally changed the lives of their fellow Delawareans through their leadership, advocacy, and determination,” said Dr. Mark T. Brainard, president of Delaware Tech. “These women are trailblazers who have provided inspiration for others —especially young women — to follow them into leadership roles, and we are grateful for their service and their many important contributions to the people of our state.”

The public is invited to view the portraits of women in the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame through Jan. 31, 2024.

In conjunction with the exhibit, the Office of Women’s Advancement & Advocacy has also launched a website that features all 167 portraits and accompanying biographical information.

Applications for the 2023 Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame are now open and can be found at de.gov/women.

This art exhibition was organized by the Office of Women’s Advancement & Advocacy and Delaware Technical Community College’s Owens Campus in Georgetown. The exhibition is supported by the Delaware Department of Human Resources and the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame Committee.
