Cabry: Meyer is candidate with real plans, experience

Posted

Matt Meyer has a clear vision for Delaware (mattmeyer.org/vision-of-delaware) Throughout his career, he has shown that he can implement his ideas.

If Matt is elected, we will finally have a governor who believes it is “not right that a family earning $67,000 a year pays the same rate in state taxes as a family making $67 million.” Matt will institute a progressive tax system to make the wealthy pay their fair share.

We will have a governor who has specific plans to address the need for affordable housing and financial stability for Delawareans of all ages. Those plans include child care tax credits to help working families and a tax “circuit breaker” that will cap property tax bills for income-eligible seniors.

I was a public high school teacher and counselor for 36 years. I’m excited that Matt was also a teacher and has the courage to say that Delaware has a “broken and underfunded education system” that “makes the American dream impractical for too many Delawareans by the third grade.”

Matt believes it is a “moral imperative” to fully fund our schools. It is also key to solving Delaware’s teacher shortage. Quality schools are crucial to bringing doctors and other professionals to our communities.

Matt Meyer has a realistic and clear vision to make Delaware a better place to live and work. He will bring his varied experiences as a businessperson, a teacher and an executive of New Castle County to the governor’s office. He will make his vision reality.

Matt Meyer has my vote in the Democratic primary Sept. 10.
