Adventure tour of Great Cypress Swamp in Selbyville is Sept. 30
SELBYVILLE — Delaware Wild Lands, the oldest and largest land conservation organization in the state, is offering an adventure tour of the Great Cypress Swamp on Sept. 30.
All are welcome on the tour, which will begin at 9 a.m.
The area is the northernmost baldcypress swamp in the United States and the largest forested freshwater swamp on the Delmarva Peninsula.
Spanning the Delaware-Maryland border in Sussex, Wicomico and Worcester counties, the swamp is undergoing significant restoration, following hundreds of years of ditching and draining, extensive timbering and two historic fires.
For more than 50 years, Delaware Wild Lands, a nonprofit founded in 1961, has been working to protect the location.

Attendees are encouraged to wear pants, hiking boots or closed-toed footwear and insect repellent, and to bring binoculars.
