Princess Anne Chamber elects Doug Perry as new president

PRINCESS ANNE — The Princess Anne Chamber of Commerce elected a new president and secretary during  its virtual March meeting.

Long-time President Dennis Williams, who first served in the top spot for two years starting in 2008 and was elected again in 2016, is stepping down. He will be succeeded by Doug Perry of Landmark Insurance and Financial Group.

Mr. Perry is the former secretary and replacing him in that role is Walter Woods.
Continuing as vice president is Lynell Fletcher Pugh and Pat Colborn serves as treasurer. Directors are Mark Williamson, Jon Hurst, Mattie Dryden, Jim Sharf, Frank Stone, David Donohoe and Ed Goyda.

This past year despite COVID-19 members gathered for ribbon cuttings and held the Christmas tree lighting at the Courthouse. Unfortunately, the monthly lunch meetings were curtailed, and Street Fest was canceled as was the Christmas parade.

However, the board will be examining what opportunities are ahead in 2021 as the pandemic subsides.

“Until then,” Ms. Williams wrote to members, events will be virtual because “the safety of each of our members is our top priority.” He did say during the meeting event opportunities are being considered including one in conjunction with a local bed and breakfast.

To benefit members who may be struggling to stay in business because of the coronavirus pandemic the membership dues were lowered from $60 to $25 this year, which is the same rate for an individual or non-business supporter.

“We understand the impact that this pandemic has had on commerce, and we will be exploring networking opportunities and events that provide safe and secure attendance,” Mr. Williams added, and the response so far to the discounted rate has been “wonderful.”

Mr. Perry said he wants to meet more members and looks forward to more networking opportunities, and will lean on the “invaluable” experience of Mr. Williams as he settles into leading the business group. Updates including the membership application will be posted on the chamber’s Facebook page.
