CAMBRIDGE — Let a little pandemic stop the Maple Elementary traditional turkey trot? Not on my watch, said PE teacher Ryan Daniels. With the help of technology teacher Bobbi Jo Callis, Maple’s students participated in this year’s turkey trot on the morning of Nov. 24 for the 10th year running - this year, virtually.
Ms. Callis created a video from footage Mr. Daniels shot while running the turkey trot course around the school grounds. The classroom teachers then showed the video that morning for their online students who were able to run in place, “following” Mr. Daniels around the Maple terrain.
Teachers picked one fleet-footed participant from each class to be entered in the prize draw for – what else? – a 10-pound turkey.
“Congratulations to winner Chelsey Gonzalez Rubio,” a statement from Dorchester County Public Schools said. “Unusual times call for creative measures – that’s what our teachers do!”
