CAMBRIDGE – A 31-year-old Cambridge man has been charged with 1st-degree attempted murder and other offenses following an early-morning incident on Saturday.

At approximately 3:49 a.m., Cambridge Police Department (CPD) officers responded to the 400 block of Camper Street in reference to a stabbing. Upon officers’ arrival, they located a 39-year-old male victim from Cambridge laying on the floor bleeding with multiple stab and laceration wounds to his back, arms, thigh and head.

Officers rendered medical aid to the victim until Dorchester County EMS arrived on scene and took over medical care. While CPD was rendering medical aid to the victim, he informed the officers of the suspect’s name. The victim repeated the statement prior to going unconscious.

The victim was transported to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury by ambulance where he was in surgery Saturday morning and in stable condition, according to a statement from the CPD. Due to heavy rain at the time of the incident, the victim could not be flown out by a medivac helicopter.

Officers were given a description of the suspect by a witness who had also allegedly been assaulted by the suspect as he fled from the residence. Police canvassed the immediate area.

A CPD officer who was on foot located the suspect hiding in a wooded area between Camper Street and the Board of Education. He was placed under arrest and transported to CPD for further investigation.

The man had his initial appearance before a court commissioner and was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Charles Brandon McCourt was charged with the following:

  • 1st Degree Attempted Murder
  • 2nd Degree Attempted Murder
  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Dangerous Weapon Intent to Injure
