ND students take part in ROTC program

Posted

EASTON – North Dorchester High School students, members of the Naval Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Program, took part in an event Nov. 9 in honor of Veterans Day.

They are the first cohort of Dorchester County Public Schools’ partnership with Talbot County Public Schools’ NJROTC program. The Dorchester County cadets are Ryan Widmaier, Vivica Merritt, Ryleigh Yirka, Olivia Price, Kenneth Powell, Ny’Asiajha Sampson and Lucy White.

“The NJROTC program teaches students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, teamwork and personal responsibility while building self-esteem, self-discipline and a sense of accomplishment, all valuable skills and traits in both the military and civilian life,” a statement from North Dorchester High School said. “Most of our cadets said they are planning for a military career, although one cadet also voiced appreciation of the program for ‘improving me as a human.’ On this Veterans Day, we thank veterans not only for their service, but for inspiring subsequent generations to follow in their footsteps and live up to their ideals.”
