CAMBRIDGE - On Oct. 6, a Cambridge Police Department officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a stop sign violation at Rigby and Fairmont avenues. As the officer was approaching the vehicle, the driver, who had exited and then reentered the vehicle, fled the stop location in the vehicle.
The operator was traveling in a reckless and negligent manner, a statement from Cambridge Police said. The officer was able to apprehend the driver in the 700 block of Cornish Drive.
Upon being arrested, the driver said he fled due to having a warrant out of Delaware and wanting to get his child home, the statement said.
It was discovered that the man had been transporting a 1-year-old child in the vehicle. The child was turned over to a family member.
A search incident to the arrest uncovered a quantity of wax folds containing suspected heroin. An MVA record check was conducted on the driver and the vehicle and showed that the man had a suspended and revoked license, that the vehicle had no insurance, switched tags and was unregistered.
The vehicle was towed from the scene by a local company. The driver was transported to the Cambridge Police Department and charged.
He had his initial appearance before a court commissioner and was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond.
Tavon Wesley Adams was charged with the following:
The warrant from Delaware stemmed from an incident on May 27, 2016, in which Adams was charged with burglary and other related charges. Adams was charged as a fugitive from justice out of Delaware. He had his initial appearance before a court commissioner and was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond, awaiting an extradition hearing.
