Food Lion donates to MidShore Meals til Monday

CAMBRIDGE – MidShore Meals til Monday has received $2,200 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger. The Feeding the Hungry grant supports MidShore Meals til Monday’s efforts to provide food to children attending Dorchester County Public Schools and their families with its food pantry at Mace’s Lane Middle School.

In addition, the grants support community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.

MidShore Meals til Monday provides bags of weekend food for students in the school system experiencing food insecurity. The organization offers nonperishable food for weekend consumption for out-of-school times.

Each bag of food contains enough nutritious items for weekend meals for a student and other family members. The school pantry at Mace’s Lane Middle School, which this grant funding will help support, also offers large food distributions for students, their families, the school community and other residents needing food assistance.

“The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint,” a statement from the organization said. “Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $18.1 million in grants.”
