CAMBRIDGE – The Cambridge Woman’s Club will present astrophysicist Harry Heckathorn on Friday at 1 p.m.
Mr. Heckathorn, a Friends of Blackwater board member, will discuss Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge’s astronomical telescope, newly installed on the south lawn of Blackwater and the night sky tours he leads during the periods of the new moon.
Mr. Heckathorn received his master’s degree and PhD in astrophysics from Northwestern University. He began his career in 1970, eventually joining the US Naval research lab and later becoming active in missile defense applications until he retired in 2006.
He has been active in facilitating the installation of the powerful Mead LX 600 telescope and offers a detailed perspective, revealing encyclopedic knowledge of the stars, planets and nebulae in down-to-earth, easy-to-comprehend language.
The public is invited to enjoy refreshments at 12:30 p.m. and the lecture at 1 p.m. at the Woman’s Club at Sycamore College at 417 High St. in Cambridge. The lecture is free and ample parking is available. For more information, call Kathy at 415-483-6969.
