Speak Up: Response to cancer moonshot question

In a recent speech, President Joe Biden reignited his cancer moonshot and its goals: Accelerate scientific discovery related to cancer and the sharing of data, cut cancer deaths in half and improve the lives of those living with and surviving cancer. What needs to occur for those lofty goals to be reached?

• We can come up with a vaccine and medicines for COVID-19 in a year. It amazes me that a cure for all cancers has not been achieved by now. People have speculated that health officials really don’t want to discover a cure, or reveal that they can. Thousands of hospitals and cancer centers would be shut down and millions unemployed. I hope not. But it makes you wonder. I’m all for Biden’s plan. — S.C. Sipple
