Question of the Day: What’s the answer concerning polystyrene?

Posted

Here is the Question of the Day:

Senate Bill 51 prohibits food establishments from using polystyrene foam containers, which is rarely recycled and “contains the toxic substances styrene and benzene, suspected carcinogens and neurotoxins.” During debate, critics discussed the effect it could have on a New Castle County distributor of the foam and questioned the exceptions found in the bill. Supporters said it is a good first step toward less litter and trash sent to landfills, and that the move “making some of these difficult decisions (will) spur innovation.” What’s a solution that satisfies concerns on both sides of the issue?
