Letter to the Editor: Reader disagrees with writer’s lack of concern about debt ceiling

Posted

Mr. Arthur Sowers says in his Letter to the Editor not to worry about the national debt, and he quotes a lot of statistics to prove his point (“Debt ceiling drama shouldn’t worry us too much,” March 14).

However, he left out one very important fact. He fails to mention the amount of interest we are paying to float this ever-growing debt.

When I was in the eighth grade, we were a creditor nation. Now, we are a debtor nation.

Our politicians’ attitude towards the national debt is the reason we should worry and do something about it, rather than pass it on to future generations.

He did have some good advice at the end, when he said you better be saving some money.
