Letter to the Editor: Governor’s recent Supreme Court picks not representative of Kent Co.

Posted

Numerous members of the Kent County Bar Association have expressed disappointment that no Kent Countian was nominated by the governor to fill one of two vacancies. This means that there will be no one from Kent County on the esteemed Delaware Supreme Court.

This is a marked break from tradition. Since the Supreme Court was modernized decades ago, there has been representation on the court from each of our counties.

It is important to have the diversity of thought from the counties represented. Further, the Supreme Court is responsible for the oversight of the legal community. From a simple administrative viewpoint, it is critical that all three of our counties are represented.

We respectfully urge the governor and the legislature to immediately correct this precedent-setting course of action.

Thank you.

Gary Junge

President, Kent County Bar Association
