DOVER — Delaware State University Downtown (formerly Wesley College) is inviting the community to take part in several activities Saturday:

  • 9 a.m. — A 5K walk and run will be held to raise awareness about sexual assault prevention. It will begin at Cecil Street and continue through the nearby residential area. To register, visit seashorestriders.com.
  • Noon to 4:30 p.m. — The annual DSU Downtown Spring Festival will include ice cream, snow cones, face painting, balloon art and local and student vendors, as well as wellness screenings, a car and motorcycle show, and other activities.
  • 4:30-9:30 p.m. — Jazz Under the Stars will be a showcase of student and guest musicians at the DSU Downtown Amphitheater. The performances will include the university’s Jazz Ensemble and Faculty Jazz Ensemble, the all-female jazz group Shade of Blue, Oklahoma touch guitarist Dr. Lorne Lee and the featured guest artists, Atlanta’s John Robertson Trio and vocalist Rosemary Rainey. Each performance will represent a different genre of jazz. In the event of rain, the site for the concert will be the Schwartz Center for the Arts, 226 S. State St., Dover.

The Spring Festival and Jazz Under the Stars are free and open to the public. The 5K includes a $25 registration fee, with the proceeds benefiting the school’s victim advocacy work.
