Downtown Dover merchants recognized for creativity

DOVER — The Downtown Dover Partnership announced the winners of its summer window-decorating contest Tuesday.

Evetta Blount-Jackson of Creative Vision and Lori Llewellyn of My Roots tied for the win, said partnership spokeswoman Jordan Resh in a press release.

July’s theme was “Celebrate America!”

Judges Samantha Carter, Cindy Dunn, Macy Alexander and Shannon Wyatt of Dover Mall braved the recent heat to marvel at the decorated storefronts. In true American fashion, the displays resonated with patriotism in different ways, and the panel gave its independent vote to its favorites, Ms. Resh said.

At Creative Vision, the celebratory windows were packed with red, white and blue party favors, which Ms. Dunn described as “very patriotic.”

Meanwhile, Ms. Carter commented that she “loved the colors” at My Roots, adding that “it set the mood for a picnic vibe.”

Though the two stores approached the theme differently, both captured the fun of freedom and independence, plus a few of the many reasons to celebrate America.

In response to her win, Ms. Blount-Jackson said, “What better way to celebrate than with fireworks, balloons and enjoying the fact that I am free to do so as an American!”

Creative Vision, at 146 S. Governors Ave., offers event-planning services, helping clients “bring a vision to life!” she said.

Ms. Llewellyn of My Roots was thrilled with the win, as well.

“We are excited and proud to be part of the beautification of downtown Dover. Thank you to the panel of judges for volunteering their time to participate. The community won’t want to miss seeing our storefronts lit up!” she said.

My Roots is at 9 W. Loockerman St. and offers both boutique retail sales and hair services.

The contest themes are selected by the Downtown Dover Partnership Merchant Committee. The goal is to beautify the downtown district, to make strolling the area more enjoyable, to invite shoppers into stores and to have the most beautiful store windows in the region.

Both winning merchants received $100 and a trophy to keep until the next contest, “Arts & Harvest” in October.
