Dagsboro council delays appointment to fill vacancy

Posted

DAGSBORO — An appointment to fill a Town Council vacancy created in March is on hold until May.

On Monday, council agreed with Mayor William Chandler III’s suggestion that it hold off appointing someone to fill the seat of Brian Baull, who announced last month that he was stepping down for personal matters.

“My view is that this is something we probably want to collectively think about. There is no urgency to this decision,” Mayor Chandler said.

“We don’t have some pending major issues or problems that we would want to have a full council available.”

Council members Norwood Truitt, Carol Thompson and Jason Russell agreed to postpone the discussion until the May 20 meeting.

Meanwhile, Councilwoman Thompson agreed to fill a spot on the Prince George’s Cemetery Committee, a position previously held by Mr. Baull.

That group meets twice annually to address maintenance and funding of the cemetery along Vines Creek Road.

“I don’t mind if it’s twice a year,” she said. “I’ll learn something. I care a lot about this.”

Council also approved the appointment of Sherine High to the Board of Adjustment. She fills an opening created following the death of Diane Carey earlier this year.
