RESPONSES TO QUESTION OF THE WEEK

What’s your favorite part of the Delaware State Fair?

Posted

Thousands of visitors, both local and not, have been descending upon Harrington for the annual Delaware State Fair, continuing through Aug. 1. There’s much to participate in, but what do you enjoy? Do you attend for the food, concerts and socialization? Or are the agriculture and animal events more your style?

  • I am 72 and have been going for over 50 years. Now, I live only a few miles away and love it. I enjoy all the free entertainment and all the buildings with competitions. And I love the horses, the sheep and the goats. And I always go to the Grange for fried chicken and to the homemade root beer stand. I go on the free Senior’s Day and appreciate it. — Denise Bella
  • The dairy show, the tractor pull and the grandstand shows. — Kim Zeitler Robbins
  • When it’s gone. — LaTishia Reed Murray
  • It’s nothing but a money grab now. For the price, you may as well go to a real theme park. It’s $55 for a day pass at Hersheypark, and that’s with all the rides and The Boardwalk water park. At the Delaware State Fair, it’s $10.50 to walk in the gate. For all-day rides, it’s $42. So, $52.50 for the state fair or $55 for Hersheypark, with the water park added? I’m just using the one park as an example; there are many to choose from. It only shows that the Delaware State Fair is pricing itself out. — Jeff Grzeszczak
  • Animals and food. — Tina Macomber
  • The fair used to be free for families on opening day. — Bob Hice
