In a game that featured a combined 35 runs scored on 44 total hits, Wesley College came up short, falling, 22-13, to Salisbury in a Capital Athletic Conference baseball contest on Wednesday afternoon.

Dre Jones went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI while Mike Calvarese, Eric Willey (Woodbridge) and Joseph Hummel each ripped three hits as well. Nine different Wolverines recorded at least one hit while eight different Wesley players drove in at least one run.

Wesley (2-2 CAC, 8-7 overall) got on the board in the first inning. But the Sea Gulls took control with eight runs in the first and second innings combined.

Bryant 16, Delaware 5: The Blue Hens’ seven-game win streak came to a screeching halt as Bryant banged out 19 hits, including two home runs, in the win.

Delaware (12-5), off to its best start since 1998 and riding its longest winning streak in four years, tied it up 3-3 in the second inning but the Bulldogs (10-4) scored in every inning except the ninth to run away with the victory.

The Hens allowed season-highs of 16 runs and 19 hits and lost for the first time since a 5-3 setback to UMass-Lowell on March 6. Delaware also had a six-game home winning streak snapped.

Delaware scored two runs in the ninth on an RBI infield ht by Tyler Dean (Indian River) and RBI single by Adam Rapp.

College lacrosse

WOMEN, Delaware 10, Temple 4: With the contest tied 3-3, at halftime, the Blue Hens scored three unanswered goals to open the second half in their nonconference victory.

Delaware (8-1), which has won six straight, was led by senior Casey Lyons, who posted her third hat trick of the season with three points to go along with two assists. She added two draw controls and two groundballs.

Sophomore Becky Gohsler registered her third straight game of two goals in addition to collecting two draw controls and a caused turnover.

Dattellas also logged two goals while classmate Shannon Hawley notched a goal and two assists.

Goalie sophomore Taylor Carpentier registered eight saves.

Coming into the game, the Hens were averaging 12.88 goals per contest while the Owls posted 14.38. Temple (7-2) had scored at least 12 goals in each of the previous seven games and was held to its lowest total since losing to No. 8 Florida, 17-3, on March 28, 2015.

Delaware is off to its best start since 2000 when the squad opened the year 9-1.

College football

UD puts 30 on all-academic team: For the second straight year, the Delaware football team put a record number of players on the Colonial Athletic Association Academic All-Conference team.

Delaware, which led all league members with a school-record 28 selections in 2014, surpassed that mark with 30 student-athletes honored for the 2015 season.

To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average through the fall, 2015 semester for their careers at the school.

Stony Brook’s total of 50 led the CAA and was followed by Villanova with 42 and Elon with 41. Delaware, Albany, and James Madison tied for fourth with 30 selections each.

Delaware will open spring drills on April 7, and will have 14 practice days leading up to the annual Blue-White Spring Game on May 7.
