On a Senior Day when she was the lone senior being honored, Tiara White collected 13 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Wesley College women’s basketball squad to a 63-58 win over St. Mary’s in its season finale on Saturday.

The Wolverines finish the season 6-12 in the Capital Athletic Conference, 7-19 overall.

The senior was one of four Wolverines to finish in double-digits as Monshea Newsome-Murray (Seaford) led the team with a career-high 17 points. The freshman also finished with eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Alexus Stroud (Smyrna) finished with 15 while Brionna Johnson (Smyrna) netted 10 and pulled down 12 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season.

The Wolverines forced the Seahawks into 20 turnovers, eight of them coming on Wesley steals.

St. Mary’s started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run to tie the game. But, over the next three minutes, the Wolverines went on a 13-6 run to regain a seven-point advantage, capped by a crucial three-pointer from Brittney Kerns.

Kerns’ three gave Wesley a 57-50 lead with just under three minutes remaining. In the final minutes, Wesley went 6-for-6 from the foul line, including 4-for-4 by White, to seal the win.

White finishes her career in the top 15 in program history in career rebounds despite only playing three years for the Wolverines.

College baseball

Wesley 17, Greensboro 6: The Wolverines (1-1) turned 20 hits into 17 runs in earning its first win of the season.

Dre Jones and Trevor Mears (Sussex Central) each had four hits, four runs, and three RBI, while Christopher Seibert went 3-for-5 with a team-high four runs knocked in. Mike Calvarese added a 2-for-4 effort with a pair of RBI as well.

Cody Simet earned the win on the mound, tossing six innings and allowing two earned runs (six total) on 10 hits while recording a pair of strikeouts. Alex Marrs and Collin Miller each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to close out the game.

Stetson 5, Delaware 2: The Hatters scored twice in both the first and third innings before going on to the victory.

Nick Tierno had two hits and scored a run for the Blue Hens (1-1). Polytech High grad Conner Chasanova saw his first action for Delaware, striking out one and recording two outs in the seventh.

Hornets drop two: Delaware State was blanked twice by Gardner-Webb on Saturday, falling 9-0 and 8-0, in a nonconference doubleheader.

In the opener, Travis Dill (Caesar Rodney) took the loss for the Hornets (0-3), lasting 3.1 innings and allowing two runs on four hits with three walks. Delaware State used five pitchers in the game.

The Hornets collected eight hits, all singles, with Kwestin Smith going 3-for-4.

In the nightcap, DSU got singles from Darnell Maisonett-Velez, Cameron Onderko, Jaylen Zielecki and Sam Barber in the game.

College softball

Hens split again: Delaware bounced back from a 5-0 shutout loss to Indiana by posting a 5-4 comeback win over the host Panthers on Saturday during the second day of the Florida International Invitational.

Against FIU, Delaware (2-2) trailed 4-3 in the top of the fifth before Mariah Kondravy led off with an infield single and Anna Steinmetz followed with a two-run homer to give UD the lead for good. Blue Hen starter Carolyn Szymanski then fired a scoreless bottom of the fifth, before Kiersten Coffman got the final six outs to record the save.

College lacrosse

MEN, Shenandoah 15, Wesley 12: The Wolverines nearly overcame a six-goal deficit, but could not complete their comeback in their season opener.

Sam Seibert finished with four goals, leading seven different Wesley scorers while Zach Weitzel and Hunter Coho each notched a pair of scores. Ryan Ramsey netted a goal and finished with a team-high six ground balls while Oakley Dieter led the Wolverines with three caused turnovers and also scooped four ground balls.

WOMEN, Penn 12, Delaware 10: The Blue Hens were unable to capitalize on a late rally as No. 13 Penn picked up the victory,

Delaware trailed 12-7 with 17:32 remaining before scoring three unanswered goals to bring the score to 12-10 with 4:31 left. Senior Kara Dattellas posted a balanced game with a team-high three draw controls to go along with four points.
