The Wesley College men’s lacrosse team went into halftime deadlocked at 6-6, but outscored Immaculata 5-0 in the third quarter to distance themselves and earn their first win of the season, beating the Mighty Macs 12-10 on Saturday afternoon.

Jack Redefer led the team with five goals while Sam Seibert finished with three goals and a pair of assists. Nate Gemmato had a goal and an assist while scooping a game-high 11 ground balls. The midfielder was excellent in the faceoff circle as well, winning 15-of-19 draws. Nolan Vesey and Jason Berry each finished with two caused turnovers, tied for the team lead. Goaltender Cody Ireland made 10 saves to earn his first collegiate win in net.

WOMEN, Wesley 15, Randolph 11: The Wolverines received another stellar effort from goaltender Savannah Clough and used a well-balance offense to hold off Randolph College, earning their first win of the season.

Clough made 18 saves in net, grabbed a caused turnover, and scooped three ground balls to earn the win between the pipes. Eight different Wolverines found the goal with Rodneisha Scott, Foley Wassmuth, and Bailey Olds each netting three to lead the charge. Ashley Luna led the team with two assists and scored a goal as well. Summer Stone led the team with four ground balls and registered a team-best three caused turnovers.

Despite being outshot 29-21, Wesley made the most of their opportunities. The squad converted 14 of their 17 clear attempts and earned 17 caused turnovers as well.

Delaware State 18, Radford 14: Juniors Iman Hassan and Kayla Yurkanin scored five goals each to lead Delaware State to a women’s lacrosse victory over Radford at Alumni Stadium. The 18 goals tied the Hornets’ single-game record, first set on April 8, 2015 in a win over District of Columbia (18-4).

Hassan also tallied two assists to give her seven points in the game, tying the school record. Yurkanin had one assist for a career-high six points in the contest.

The DSU individual record for goals in a game is six.

The win is the first of the season for the Hornets (1-3), while Radford fell to 0-3 in its first year as a team.

Delaware 13, Rutgers 9: Senior Kara Dattellas and junior Jamie Schwartz each collected hat tricks Saturday afternoon as Delaware picked up the win against Rutgers at High Point Solutions Stadium.

The duo each tallied three goals and one assist on the day for a total of four points while senior Shannon Hawley notched two goals and two assists for the Hens (4-1).

Dattellas finished the day with a team-high four groundballs in addition to two caused turnovers and a draw control.

College baseball

Manhattan 10, Delaware 2: Manhattan broke open a close game by scoring three runs in the seventh inning and four more in the ninth to hand the University of Delaware baseball team a setback during the second day of the Old Dominion Tournament at ODU’s Bud Metheny Complex Saturday afternoon.

Delaware (3-2), which opened the tournament with a 7-6 win over Virginia Tech Friday afternoon, had a two-game winning streak snapped. The Blue Hens will close out the tournament Sunday when they take on host Old Dominion at 3 p.m.

“This was just not a good day for us all around,” said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman. “You just hope as a coach that our gang bounces back tomorrow with a much better effort and focus. I really believe in this group. You have a few of these type of games through a 56-game schedule each year. Let this be a lesson learned.”

Delaware took a 2-0 lead in the second inning but the Jaspers scored a run in the third, took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth to chase UD starter Brandon Walter, and then poured it on with three runs in the seventh and four more in the ninth. Manhattan did its damage with just seven hits, the same total as the Blue Hens.

Walter, the 2015 Delaware High School Player of the Year at Hodgson Vo-Tech, allowed just one hit in 4.2 innings of work but surrendered four walks and suffered his second loss. Overall, Delaware was hurt by nine walks on the day as Sherman used six different pitchers.
