Polytech High scored seven goals in the last nine minutes of the game to rally for a 14-13 victory over Smyrna in Henlopen Conference Northern Division boys’ lacrosse on Wednesday night.

Jake Davis and Zach Mahue combined to win nine out of 10 faceoffs in the fourth quarter for the Panthers, who trailed 11-7 after getting shut out in the third period.

Polytech’s Patrick O’Brien (1 assist) netted four goals with Zachary Trabaudo and Mahue adding three apiece. Jake Davis (2 goals, 2 assists), Griffin Ott (1 goal) and Josh Davis (1 goal, 1 assist) also scored for the Panthers with Nathan Fairbanks making 12 saves.

Smyrna goalie Nathan Williamson made 21 saves as Polytech outshot the Eagles, 29-22.

Brian Davis had a game-high five goals and an assist for Smyrna while Jacob Soroko had three goals and four assists. The Eagles also got two goals apiece from Jake Kaiser and Jonathan Guzman.

Lake Forest 18, Indian River 16: Carter Kenton collected six goals and an assist to lead the Spartans to the Henlopen South victory.

Benjamin Moore and Dawaunta Parker added four goals and a pair of assists each with Austin Aguilar tallying three goals and two assists.

Parker Sard scored Lake’s other goal.

Dover 13, Sussex Central 4: The Senators (6-5) made it three in a row as they’re now above .500 for the first time this season.

Will Niebrzydowski had seven goals and an assist for Dover. Also pacing the Senators were Robby Mason (2 goals, 3 assists), Thomas Gill (3 goals, 1 assist), Ashoka Garrett (1 goal, 2 assists) and Ricky Pitts (1 goal).

Kyle Potter made seven saves with Anthony Tunnell stopping four shots for Dover.

Cape Henlopen 17, Sussex Tech 7: The Vikings (6-0 North, 8-3 overall) wrapped up the Henlopen Conference Northern Division title with the victory.

Salesianum 14, Caesar Rodney 4: The Sals outscored the Riders, 7-1, in the second half to put the game out of reach.

GIRLS, Polytech 19, Smyrna 9: Ali McKay netted seven goals to pace the Panthers to the Henlopen Conference victory.

Jamie Trabaudo (5 goals, 2 assists), Maddie McKay (4 goals, 2 assists), Kate Richardson (2 goals, 4 assists) and Morgan Cook (1 goal) also led Polytech, which led 12-6 at halftime.

Shannon Stephan made five for the Panthers, who outshot Smyrna, 30-18.

The Eagles were led by Shabnam Noroozi-Pooya (4 goals), Maddie Price (3) and Juliana Kolakowski (1 goal). Gabrielle DiRusso made 11 saves.

Baseball

Smyrna 7, Lake Forest 2: Winning pitcher Shawn Dulin and Garrett Casey combined to pitch a three-hitter as the Eagles (7-0 Henlopen Conference, 10-2 overall) stayed unbeaten in conference.

Casey struck out six in three innings in a contest that was played at Harrington Little League. Virgil Wilson hit a solo homer for Smyrna, which broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the fourth inning.

Jordan Simpson and Tyler Collins drove in runs for the Spartans.

Girls’ soccer

Dover 1, Sussex Tech 0: Zaria Henry netted the game-winner off an assist from Rachel Mills in the 69th minute to lift the Senators to the Henlopen North win.

Caroline Cashion made a pair of saves for Dover, which outshot the Ravens, 6-2.

Sussex Tech’s Valencia Whealton made five saves.

St. Thomas More 6, Del. Public Safety & Security 0: The Ravens tallied three goals in both halves in earning their first victory.

College lacrosse

Four Blue Hens honored: The Delaware men’s lacrosse team placed a pair of student-athletes on the all-rookie team and another on the second team as part of the Colonial Athletic Association all-star teams.

Junior attackman Paul Major was an All-CAA second-team selection while redshirt freshman attackman Andrew Romagnoli and freshman longstick midfielder Austin Haynes were honored on the all-rookie team. In addition, senior midfielder Steve DeLargy was Delaware’s representative on the CAA All-Academic team.

Major finished as the team leader in goals (24), points (32), and shots (84) and scored two or more goals six times, including a career-high six vs. Rutgers and four against Towson.
